COPELAND, Geraldine M. “Kitty” – Chipman, NB

It is with great sadness that the family of Geraldine (Kitty) Marie Copeland of Chipman, NB, announces her passing at Oromocto Public Hospital on Friday, September 27, 2019 at the age of 95.

Geraldine was born March 11, 1924 at Bridgewater, N.S. daughter of the late Jasper (Beatrice Foley) Kennedy. She is survived by her sons: Gary (Sharon), Allan (special friend, Lois), Jan (Elaine), Jody (Rhonda), and daughter Arlene (Victor), brother Tim Kennedy, 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She is best known for her writing of children’s short stories, poetry, and songs, the most noted being the gospel song, ‘The Rose Upon The Bible’. Her hard work earned her inductions into Minto Country Music Wall of Fame, New Brunswick Country Music Hall of Fame, and the New Brunswick Gospel Music Hall of Fame. During her early years, she applied herself to her love of country music by presiding as President of the Atlantic Division of the Hank Snow Fan Club. Also, she gave special interest to the setting up and running the first Kindness Club in the Chipman area. When she was not busy writing, you could see her standing behind her counter of the Copeland Variety.

She is predeceased by her husband Lewis, mother Beatrice (Foley) Kennedy, father Jasper Kennedy, brother Gerald Kennedy, and daughter-in-law Sandra (Clark) Copeland.

Visitation will be held at the Chipman Funeral Home & Crematorium (28 Northrup Drive) on Monday, September 30, 2019 from 2-4 & 6-8 pm.
