SMITH, Vance L. – Coles Island, NB

Vance Lyman Smith (Smitty), born in Saint John, NB on October 17 1939, was a former resident of Cassidy Lake, then the Coles Island area passed away at the Sussex Health Centre on January 18, 2020. Vance enjoyed fishing, visiting friends, going to music nights or community events, farmers markets, attending church and Bible studies and of course spending time with family.

He worked 30 plus years at the Saint John ship yard as a shipliner, took care of his farm, was on the Hammond-Jeffries Fire Department, in the Canadian Armed forces Black watch Division, he also was a member with the Coles Island Senior Hall.

He was predeceased by his parents Ernest& Hazel (Caudle) Smith, Titusville; his oldest brother Norman & sister- in-law Bonny Smith of NS.  He is survived by his sister Ferna & Bud Nice of Saltsprings NB; youngest brother Paul & Barb Smith of Kingston and his 8 children.

A celebration of life will be held from the Cody’s Baptist Church, in Cody’s, NB on Monday, January 27, 2020 at 1:00 pm with a reception to follow. Everyone is welcome to attend if you would like.

So sorry to learn of Vance’s passing. We got to know Vance through Ruby Nelson and Otty White. He was a very special person and so kind! He will be greatly missed. In Sympathy,

I was so sorry to just hear of Vance’s passing. My condolences to his family. He was a good friend to my late husband visiting him almost daily in the last months of his life. Vance will be missed not only by his family, but all who knew him.
